The story is of a painter who lives in depressing circumstances and whose tattered mental state due to the situation in which he lives is embodied in his art. He expresses his mood by painting scattered lines that form two identical soldiers, each seeking revenge from the other. The painter tries to manipulate the fate of both soldiers as they search for each other, but he loses control of his painting and stands powerless when the two identical soldiers meet, each one of them intent on taking revenge on the other first. The painter allows a third party to intervene - a joint enemy of both soldiers - and the scene ends with the killing of the two soldiers and the painting engulfed by the colour red. Thus, stark reality is accurately portrayed.
