In Lebanon, from 1985 to 1988, an appealing wave of kidnappings struck the westerners. Almost always tied up, whisked off from windowless apartments to underground car parks. Some captives had to remain for hours in boxes slid into trucks, because their kidnappers had to leave South Beirut’s suburbs in the middle of the war. Through the tales and memories of former hostages, this documentary focuses on their experiences as prisoners and also reveals how the French tackled their negotiations with the Iranian Islamic Regime. ’Captivity’ retraces a painful adventure that is also an allegory of friendship, solidarity and life itself
